Project 4: Simulation Prop Design

The Process

Beginning with gathering reference of the popular character, “Mario” in toy form, I combined all my reference into one to visualize what he would look like if turned into a “dragon plushie”. I began modeling all of the key features and accessories that showcase his character and silhouette, that being his: iconic hat, mustache, gloves, and overall buttons. Once all of the models were finalized I created an XGEN description with a high production count and hand sculpted the fur to look new, as if it were still on the shelf. However, I incorporated details that tell the story of passer-byers who may have brushed a hand or finger over the toy. The small details in this character are what take it from being a model, to something real and tangible; something that tells a story.
